Newcastle United have once again been linked with a move for Andy Carroll.
Newcastle United need to get moving quickly in the summer transfer window, and boss Steve Bruce is looking to make his first signing.
Hoffenheim striker Joelinton looks set to join in the coming days in a club-record deal, but that isn’t enough – and may not even be enough in attack.
After all, Newcastle have sold Ayoze Perez and Joselu, whilst loanee Salomon Rondon has decided to follow Rafael Benitez to China with Dalian Yifang.
Even when Joelinton arrives, his competition will be Yoshinori Muto and youngster Elias Sorensen, and one more striker should be targeted alongside Joelinton.
Intriguingly, Newcastle are now considering a move for free agent Andy Carroll, with The Chronicle believing that Steve Bruce is interested in signing him.
Carroll, 30, is without a club after leaving West Ham United, and it’s claimed that Bruce is a big fan of the target man, and could offer him a shock return to St James’ Park.
Carroll was a boyhood Newcastle fan and came up through their ranks before moving on to Liverpool in 2011, which caused some controversy on Tyneside.
That means there are split views on a move for Carroll, with some believing that Newcastle should just announce their own relegation now if they sign him, adding that he’s ‘finished’ and should be avoided at all costs.
Others think that Carroll would be a smart signing especially on a pay-as-you-play basis and as a replacement for Joselu, with one fans believing he’s just what the club are missing right now and another feeling a move is a ‘no-brainer’.
