Some Newcastle United fans have criticised Aleksandar Mitrovic, after his comments to the Chronicle yesterday.

Mitrovic claimed that he was enjoying his football on loan at Fulham more than he was at Newcastle, because there was less focus on tactics.

The Serbian target-man was required to perform a role where he was forced to contribute both defensively and offensively at Newcastle.

And Mitrovic is enjoying the increased freedom he has been given at Fulham.

“It’s a different style we play here,” Mitrovic, a £13 million signing from Anderlecht, admitted.

Aleksandar Mitrovic of Newcastle United reacts during the Premier League match between Newcastle United and Watford at St. James Park on November 25, 2017 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.

“The players enjoy the football more than last season with Newcastle, where we knew how we wanted to play, we always played on the results — that’s it.

“This season, this team, we always try to score more goals than the opponent.

“Newcastle was more tactically [set up].

“We didn’t play as much attacking football as we play now.”

Mitrovic certainly seems to be making an impact at Fulham, as he has netted three goals in his last three outings.

But Newcastle fans have accused him of finding his level at Craven Cottage, while others have been more understanding of the comments.

It seems unlikely that Mitrovic has any sort of future at Newcastle, despite his good form at Fulham.

Rafael Benitez has been very reluctant to use the target-man, and it appears more than probable that he will move on in the summer transfer window.
