he teenage Sunderland forwards are said to have been scouted by north east rivals, Newcastle United

Newcastle United fans look on during the Premier League match between Newcastle United and Southampton at St. James Park on March 10, 2018 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.

Newcastle United fans are reacting on Twitter to reports linking their side with moves for Sunderland forwards Joel Asoro and Josh Maja.

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle are scouting the pair ahead of the expiry of their Sunderland contracts next summer.

The teenage forwards have provided a rare bright spark in another woeful season for the Mackems, which looks certain to end in League One football next term.

Joel Asoro of Sunderland arrives ahead of the Sky Bet Championship match between QPR and Sunderland at Loftus Road on March 10, 2018 in London, England.

Josh Maja of Sunderland arrives ahead of the Sky Bet Championship match between QPR and Sunderland at Loftus Road on March 10, 2018 in London, England.

And Newcastle it seems are keen to rub salt in the wounds by luring Asoro and Maja to Tyneside, with the Daily Mail reporting that it is thought the pair – who Sunderland, it is claimed, are hopeful of agreeing new contracts for – are better than their United counterparts of a similar age.

But how is the news going down with those of a Magpies persuasion? Here’s what they’re saying…

Swapping Sunderland for Newcastle would not go down well on Wearside – although unlike the last player to make such a move, Jack Colback, Asoro and Maja are unlikely to have to face the Sunderland supporters any time soon. Would Asoro and Maja be good signings for Newcastle?
