Derby County last night announced via their official website they have fired Steve McClaren, just five months after re-appointing him.
It is one year since McClaren was sacked by Newcastle United late into disastrous campaign which ended in the club’s relegation.
McClaren had originally quit Derby to take the Newcastle job, but the Rams failed to settle on his successor with Paul Clement and Nigel Pearson both being sacked by chairman Mel Morris.

McClaren had a bright start at Derby and had them dreaming of gatecrashing the play-off places by early January, before the bubble burst and their form faded.
Derby are in 10th position, with McClaren steadying the ship after Pearson had fans fearing relegation earlier in the campaign, but the board had become disappointed with the club’s failure to build on their promise.
McClaren’s former club Newcastle top the table, and are likely to win promotion and undo the damage done by their former boss.
