The Marseille loanee has been in good form and been rewarded with a Les Bleus call-up.
Florian Thauvin
Florian Thauvin struggled to have a major impact at Newcastle United. The Frenchman played just 420 minutes of football for Newcastle United since joining the club in the summer of 2015, in a deal reported by the Daily Mail to be worth around £12 million, plus a loan deal for Remy Cabella.
With that in mind he was sent back out on loan to Marseille. He has been in great form for Marseille recently and today he has been given the ultimate reward.
The attacking midfielder has been handed his first ever call-up to the France senior national team. Didier Deschamps has called up the attacking midfielder for Les Bleus’ upcoming matches against Luxembourg and Spain.
For Newcastle fans, it is a bitter pill to swallow.
Newcastle’s Florian Thauvin before the game
The charismatic attacker never truly got a run in the Newcastle first-team and was quickly written off by Steve McClaren during his ill-fated spell as manager.
He now has a permanent return to Marseille penned in for the summer and is all set to make his France debut.
Newcastle United fans are understandably disappointed that they did not get a chance to see Thauvin thrive at St James’ Park before he was sent packing.
