A statue of the Newcastle United legend was unveiled outside St James’ Park on Monday.

Alan Shearer attended the ceremony to reveal the statue alongside the Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Hazel Stephenson.
The now BBC pundit spent 10 years at the club between 1996 and 2006 following his £15 million move from Blackburn Rovers.
Scoring 148 goals in 303 appearances, the only blot on Shearer’s Toon career came three years after he left, when he took over as manager, replacing Chris Hughton.

He managed eight games, earning one victory, two draws and suffering five losses, leading to relegation from the Premier League.
The unveiling was covered by the club’s official Twitter account.
Shearer commented: “I’m very proud and honoured to be stood here with this statue.
“When I come down this road seeing it will make me immensely proud. It is here because I enjoyed playing football.”

Whilst the former England captain reacted pleasingly to the statue which shows his famous one hand in the air goal celebration, though Newcastle fans on social media did so comically.

But there were also nice reactions too…
