Newcastle United’s search for a new manager continues after Unai Emery’s snub – and Paulo Fonseca could come back into the thinking.
Emery emerged as Newcastle’s top managerial target earlier this week. Rumours even suggested that he could take charge of this weekend’s game at Brighton.
However, Emery ended up rejecting Newcastle to stay at Villarreal. A lack of clarity over the project and the leaks to the media resulted in Emery saying no.
So what now?
Newcastle have to go elsewhere for a new manager. Eddie Howe appears to be a main contender, but what about Paulo Fonseca?
The Portuguese boss was a main contender earlier in the process, with The Telegraph reporting that Newcastle would give him a £6million-a-year deal.
Fonseca appears to have faded out of the running, but could be back after Emery’s snub.
Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie claims Fonseca wants new talks with Newcastle whilst The Mirror suggest that Fonseca could be targeted.

Newcastle fans react to Fonseca update
Newcastle fans have been taking to Twitter to react to these rumours.
Supporters urge Newcastle to ‘get it done’, believing that the club should go all out to get Fonseca in.
Others claim they wanted Fonseca all along, even over Emery, and are begging Newcastle to move.
It still seems like Howe is the new favourite, but Fonseca appears to have some support at Newcastle.
