Newcastle United fans may be frustrated if Aleksandar Mitrovic keeps up his fine form for Fulham, but it is best for them that he does.
Mitrovic has scored twice in his last two games, and seems to have established himself up-front in Fulham’s team.
The Serbian international forward’s scoring run has caused annoyance back at St. James’ Park, as many Newcastle fans feel it is proof that he could have played a role for them this season.
The Magpies have failed to find a prolific scorer, with many of their strikers struggling to hit the back of the net with any regularity.
Things have been made worse by Islam Slimani’s injury problems, which has meant that that January signing still hasn’t made his debut.
And Mitrovic’s excellent displays at Championship level, have only served to add further fuel to the view that he has been harshly treated by Raael Benitez.
But Newcastle fans must hope that Mitrovic keeps up his current scoring record.
It is fairly safe to say that Mitrovic has no future at Newcastle. Benitez appears to have major doubts over the target-man that he simply cannot see beyond.
But if Mitrovic keeps hitting the back of the net, it will raise his value, and that means Newcastle should receive a big fee for the forward, which they could re-invest next summer.
