Newcastle United defender Paul Dummett wants the club to sell out the stadium this weekend.
Newcastle United fans have hit back at Paul Dummett after he asked for them to sell the stadium out on Sunday.
Attendances have been dwindling at St. James’ Park ever since Steve Bruce arrived, with Newcastle fans angry over his appointment.
The football on offer this season has done little to persuade stay-away Newcastle supporters to return to St. James’ Park.
But Dummett wants them to come back and cheer Newcastle on against Manchester United at the weekend.
“Hopefully we can get a sold-out stadium because at the moment we haven’t had the sell-outs we would like,” Dummett said on the club’s official website.
“When we’ve got our fans there supporting us the way they can, it makes it even harder for the opposition.”
The comments have not gone down at all well with Newcastle fans, who think that Dummett has spoken out of turn.
The atmosphere at Newcastle really does threaten to turn toxic if the Magpies put in another poor performance at the weekend.
Newcastle were thrashed 5-0 in their last outing, with Bruce’s men taking on board fierce criticism for their performance.
Newcastle are in 19th place in the Premier League table as things stand, with frustrations rising rapidly over their lacklustre displays.
