Newcastle United have not got a representative in the England squad over the international break.

Newcastle United fans have argued that Jonjo Shelvey should have played for England last night.

Newcastle supporters were left frustrated when Gareth Southgate called Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks into his squad ahead of Shelvey, and they feel like their grievances were vindicated after England’s performance last night.

The Three Lions were in abject form against Slovenia, and only just managed to scrap victory in the last minute.

Southgate picked Jordan Henderson and Eric Dier to play in central midfield last night, but the pair lacked any sort of creativity.

And Newcastle supporters claim that Shelvey’s inclusion in the side would have been a far better option.

Whether Shelvey will break into England’s squad before the World Cup next summer remains to be seen.

The former Swansea and Charlton man looks to have an important role to play at St. James’ Park, but he is behind a lot of other options in the international pecking order.
