Joe Gomez is one of two Liverpool players included in the 25, but there are no Newcastle United representatives.

Newcastle United fans have been left incensed by England’s decision to call up Liverpool’s Joe Gomez instead of their captain Jamaal Lascelles.

Gomez is one of three uncapped youngsters to make Gareth Southgate’s 25 man squad for the upcoming friendlies against Germany and Brazil, alongside Chelsea pair Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tammy Abraham (who are on loan to Crystal Palace and Swansea City respectively).

The Liverpool talent has played 11 times for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season, and kept four clean sheets – which is one more than Newcastle’s Lascelles on both counts.

And while Gomez can also play right- or -left-back if required, many Newcastle fans – some of whom also feel that Jonjo Shelvey can also feel aggrieved not to be called up – believe club bias is at play.

Here’s how they’ve reacted to Thursday’s England squad announcement on Twitter:

The full England squad is as follows:

Jack Butland (Stoke City), Joe Hart (West Ham – loan from Manchester City), Jordan Pickford (Everton); Ryan Bertrand (Southampton), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Joe Gomez (Liverpool), Phil Jones (Manchester United), Harry Maguire (Leicester), Danny Rose (Tottenham), John Stones (Manchester City), Kieran Trippier (Tottenham), Kyle Walker (Manchester City); Dele Alli (Tottenham), Fabian Delph (Manchester City), Eric Dier (Tottenham), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Jesse Lingard (Manchester United), Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Crystal Palace – loan from Chelsea), Raheem Sterling (Manchester City), Harry Winks (Tottenham), Ashley Young (Manchester United); Tammy Abraham (Swansea – loan from Chelsea), Harry Kane (Tottenham), Marcus Rashford (Manchester United), Jamie Vardy (Leicester).

Should Newcastle’s Jamaal Lascelles have made Gareth Southgate’s squad?
