Newcastle United are sending scouts to the Bundesliga but who do the fans want to see arrive on Tyneside?

Newcastle United may not have the funds to compete at the top end of the transfer market as long as Mike Ashley remains as owner. But there’s plenty of markets where value remains alive and well.

The Bundesliga is one such example. After all, it’s just over a week since Newcastle completed the signing of Mikel Merino from Borussia Dortmund for a staggeringly low fee of just £7 million, per The Chronicle.

The Spanish Under-21 international had signed on loan but, with Dortmund willing to sell Merino permanently after a disappointing debut season in Germany, The Magpies did not wait around to tie down one of the summer’s most inspired signings on a long-term deal.

And The Chronicle states that Newcastle have been so enthused by Merino’s arrival that the club has sent scouts over to the Bundesliga once again to uncover more potential bargains ahead of the January transfer window.

And Newcastle supporters have drawn up their own lists of demands.

Dortmund’s teen sensation Christian Pulisic is surely out of Newcastle’s range and falls into the wishful thinking category. As does Schalke’s Leon Goretzka, who exploded onto the scene with three goals for Germany at the Confederations Cup this summer.

The Sun claim Goretzka is on the radar of Manchester United, Arsenal and Bayern Munich.

Leighton Baines-esque Hertha Berlin left-back Marvin Plattenhardt, however, appears far more realistic, not to mention affordable.

Though it remains to be seen who will catch Benitez’s eye.
