Newcastle United are set to take on Southampton at the weekend, and Paul Merson believes Rafael Benitez’s side will lose.
Newcastle United fans have been baffled after Paul Merson predicted them to lose again.
Merson has consistently suggested that Newcastle will lose their Premier League matches so far this season, which has caused frustration around St. James’ Park.
Most recently he has told Sky Sports that Newcastle will lose 2-0 to Southampton at St. Mary’s.
And while that prediction, on its own, may not have been too controversial – Newcastle fans are starting to wonder why Merson backs them to lose every week.
Newcastle have performed well above Merson’s expectations so far this season, and currently sit in ninth place in the Premier League table.
The Magpies have won three of their first seven league matches, and picked up a 1-1 draw with Liverpool int heir last outing before the international break.
If Newcastle are able to win at Southampton, and prove Merson wrong again, then Rafael Benitez’s side could climb into the top six spots.
