Newcastle United fans are not happy with Steve Bruce’s comments in the Daily Mail, where he has insisted that Mike Ashley is ambitious.

Ashley was at Newcastle’s training ground yesterday, just before Bruce conducted a press conference.

The new Magpies boss suggested that Newcastle’s aim was not just to stay in 17th place, and he was determined to try and win them a cup.

“Joelinton is a statement from the club. It’s definitely not the case he (Ashley) only wants to finish 17th. There is money to spend,” Bruce told the Daily Mail.

But Newcastle fans claim that they have heard similar words before, and they are not pleased with Bruce sending out a familiar message.

To be fair to Bruce it is hard to see what else he could have said, but the reaction does show what the experienced boss is fighting against St. James’ Park.

Many Newcastle supporters have been left angered by his appointment, as they feel that the club have shown a real lack of ambition by going for him.

Bruce will be in the Newcastle dugout for the first time at the weekend, when his side take on Preston North End on Saturday.
