Loic Remy will reportedly leave Chelsea this summer and the majority of Newcastle United fans would welcome him back to St James’ Park with open arms.
It’s easy to forget just how lethal Loic Remy was during his short-lived stay at Newcastle United. Signing on loan from QPR for the 2013/14 season, the jet-heeled French striker netted 14 Premier League goals in just 24 starts, a tally most of The Magpies’ strikers in the Mike Ashley era could only dream of.
Therefore, with Sky Sports reporting that Remy could be let go by Chelsea this summer, and Newcastle still on the lookout for a striker, the Frenchman returning to St James’ Park appears to make a lot of sense – at least in the eyes of a number of Newcastle supporters.
Remy found goals easy to come by at Newcastle
Sure, Remy’s reputation has suffered thanks to a difficult couple of years at Stamford Bridge. He started just nine Premier League games between 2014 and 2016.
Furthermore, a loan spell at Crystal Palace last season was supposed to offer redemption but offered further frustration instead, injuries preventing him from making any sort of impact at Selhurst Park.
Yet, Remy remains a proven Premier League goalscorer who has netted 29 goals in 49 starts since first moving to English shores from QPR in January 2013 from Marseille.
And though the 30-year-old will never be universally popular among Newcastle supporters, many accused him of choosing QPR over Newcastle because of as the Hoops spent big on wages at Loftus Road, a player with his eye for goal could be the difference between The Magpies surviving and thriving in the top flight.
