Newcastle United fans appear to be glad that they didn’t sign Andre Gray during the summer transfer window, after watching him play for Watford yesterday.

Watford may have won 3-0 at St. James’ Park yesterday, but Newcastle fans were far from impressed by Gray’s performance.

The rapid forward actually scored his side’s third goal during the contest, but he was guilty of being very profligate in front of goal.

Gray had at least another two presentable opportunities to score, but failed to hit the back of the net.

And Newcastle fans feel that Rafael Benitez had a lucky escape by not snapping him up during the summer transfer window.

The Chronicle reported how Newcastle attempted to sign Gray from Burnley during the summer, but they missed out to Watford.

Andre Gray of Watford celerbates scoring the opening goal during the Premier League match between Swansea City and Watford at Liberty Stadium on September 23, 2017 in Swansea, Wales.

Gray has only scored two goals since his move to the Hornets, which suggests he may not have been the man to solve Newcastle’s striking problems.

The Magpies have struggled to find a prolific scorer this term, which means a new striker could be high on Benitez’s wishlist in the January transfer window.
