Newcastle United have terminated Ivan Toney’s loan at Wigan Athletic early.

Newcastle United fans are concerned, following the news of Ivan Toney’s recall yesterday.
Toney’s loan at Wigan Athletic was terminated early, and he is now back at Newcastle.
Crucially, there was no suggestion in the club statement announcing the termination of Toney’s loan, that he would be sent back out again.

When Newcastle recalled Adam Armstrong from Bolton Wanderers recently they quickly confirmed they would be looking to move him on again, and he promptly went and joined Blackburn Rovers.
However, Toney is now back and training with Newcastle – and some supporters are concerned with developments.
Some Magpies fans fear that it means Rafael Benitez won’t be making a striking addition, while others think it suggests that Dwight Gayle or Aleksandar Mitrovic could be set to depart.
Toney could yet be moved on again this season, as he has proved a credible option at League One level.
Toney has now had loan spells at the likes of Scunthorpe and Wigan, but has enjoyed mixed success at his temporary clubs.
