Newcastle United were interested in signing Nathan Ake from Chelsea, but didn’t want to pay the price Bournemouth did.

Some Newcastle United fans appear to have been left frustrated with their side’s failure to beat Bournemouth to the signature of Nathan Ake.

Ake was announced as a Bournemouth player today, following a successful loan spell on the south coast last season.

Chelsea agreed to sell Ake for £20 million, and the Chronicle suggest that Newcastle had an interest in signing the 22-year-old.

However, after hearing the asking price for Ake, Newcastle reportedly decided to walk away from the transfer.

Rafael Benitez’s search for a new centre-back will now have to continue.

And many Newcastle supporters are frustrated that Benitez wasn’t given the funds to snap up Ake, as they feel he could have made a valuable addition.

Benitez has become frustrated with Newcastle’s slow progress in the transfer market so far this summer, according to a report in The Sun.

The Magpies have only brought in one new player – with Christian Atsu arriving on a permanent deal from Chelsea.
