Antonio Romei has told Calciomercato that Dennis Praet will not be leaving Sampdoria in January.
The Belgian playmaker was heavily linked with a move to Newcastle United and Everton during the summer transfer window.
According to The Sun back in August, Newcastle had a £17.5 million bid turned down, while The Chronicle reported that the 23-year-old would favour the Magpies over a move to Everton due to Rafael Benitez’s presence at St James’s Park.
He wound up staying with the Italian outfit, however, but January won’t be long coming around and will either Premier League side go back in for him?
According to Romei, it won’t matter as the Italian – who is close to Sampdoria owner Massimo Ferrero – claimed that the Serie A outfit has no intention of selling any of their assets.
“We will not sell any of our stars in January,” Romei told Calciomercato.
“I think we will only make a few changes, nothing more. No big players will leave in the winter transfer window.”
Praet only managed one goal and one assist in 32 top-flight games for the Italian outfit last season, but clearly Benitez and Everton boss Koeman – who tried to sign him at Southampton – have seen something in him.
But it remains to be seen whether Newcastle or the Toffees can get him.
