Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are interested in signing Evan Ferguson as they join Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur in the race.
That’s according to The Sunday Mirror (26/02, p71) who claim that Ferguson is now attracting interest from the Magpies.
It’s suggested that Newcastle would love to bring Ferguson to St James’ Park amid comparisons to Alan Shearer.
Reaching Shearer’s level is a little lofty but interest in Ferguson is mounting already.
The Sun reported last week that Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are both interested in signing Ferguson.
Newcastle are joining the race and that maybe shouldn’t be a surprise given that former Brighton chief Dan Ashworth is in charge at St James’ Park.
Ashworth will know all about Ferguson’s talent and potential so Newcastle making a move for the Irishman would certainly make sense.

Newcastle United target Evan Ferguson once rejected Liverpool
Ferguson, 18, joined Brighton from Bohemians in his native Ireland back in January 2021.
The teenager already has two Ireland caps and will feel he made the right decision by joining Brighton having already hit three goals in seven games this season.
Liverpool had taken Ferguson on trial during his time with Bohemians and then made a move to sign him permanently.
However, Ferguson rejected the move as he feared fading away at Anfield and not being given a first-team chance.
Would Ferguson be in the Liverpool first-team right now had he made the move to Merseyside? Probably not.
Instead, Ferguson is thriving for Brighton and could now have the chance to make a big move to Newcastle.
Ferguson has already proven that he will prioritise minutes over money though and staying at Brighton to develop will be very appealing to the young striker.
The Seagulls will certainly want a considerable fee for their exciting young striker and Newcastle will face a fight to secure his signature.
