Newcastle United are expected to spend big on new signings in the near future but may already have a star of the future in Elliot Anderson.

Anderson, 19, was born in the North East and joined Newcastle at the age of just eight having been with the famous Wallsend Boys Club.

Anderson has only appeared twice for the Newcastle first-team so far, but there is huge excitement surrounding his future.

The teenager can play as an attacking midfielder or winger and is at the centre of an international tug-of-war.

Anderson has played for Scotland at Under-16, 17 and 18 levels whilst he is now in the Under-21 squad.

Yet in 2021, Anderson also appeared for England at Under-19 level and seemingly hasn’t made his final decision just yet.

The teenager is now on loan at League Two side Bristol Rovers and has already bagged three goals in 13 games for promotion-chasing Pirates.

Rovers boss Joey Barton – a former Newcastle player himself – has somehow likened the teenager to Diego Maradona in a quite staggering comparison.

The Daily Mail now claim that Newcastle scout Carr believes Anderson is a player who can save PIF millions by rising through the Newcastle ranks.

Carr did speak to the Mail, claiming that Anderson is ‘classy’ and will be around the Newcastle first-team next season with another loan deal seen as pointless.

Newcastle haven’t exactly had the greatest record of developing their own young players in recent times, but Anderson could be a star.

It’s hard for homegrown players to break in after a takeover. Manchester City didn’t exactly thrive in that regard although Phil Foden is now shining.

Maybe Anderson can be Newcastle’s Foden, flourishing alongside big-money players at St James’ Park in the coming years.
