Newcastle United have been running the rule over Luton Town striker Elijah Adebayo ahead of a possible move for to sign him.
The Chronicle claim that Newcastle have been scouting Adebayo recently in what would be an under-the-radar kind of move.
When Newcastle were taken over in October, it was all big names and superstars being linked with the club.
Adebayo doesn’t quite fit that bill but he has been making a huge impact for Luton in the Championship.
Signed from Walsall in January 2020, Adebayo cost Luton just £250,000 less than a year ago.
Adebayo, 23, is a huge presence at 6ft 4in tall and has been in great form this season with 10 goals in 20 Championship games.
If Newcastle want a physical yet mobile target man with real potential, Adebayo could be their man.
Adebayo spent time in the Fulham ranks, leaving in 2019 – but his spell with the Cottagers may have been important.
Fulham defender Tim Ream told The Express (13/12/2021, p53) that he thinks Adebayo learned from Aleksandar Mitrovic at Fulham.
Mitrovic of course played for Newcastle, and the Magpies could now end up signing Adebayo in a strange twist of fate.
