Newcastle United are now joining the race to sign Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic amid claims Tottenham Hotspur are in talks about a deal.
That’s according to a report from The Sun, who claim that Newcastle’s new owners could push for Vlahovic’s signing.
Out of contract in 2023, Vlahovic has turned down a new deal at Fiorentina. They won’t want to lose him for free, so could sell in January.
Newcastle are now being talked up as a possible destination for the Serbian, who compares himself to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The Magpies seemingly don’t plan to go wild with cash in January after their takeover, instead preferring calculated signings at first.
In Vlahovic though, they could sense a bargain. With his contract running down, Vlahovic could present a rare opportunity to land a quality young striker in a cut-price deal.
Tottenham a threat to Newcastle for Vlahovic deal
Newcastle’s interest in signing Vlahovic comes just as Tottenham seemingly ramp up their efforts to land him.
Tuttomercatoweb reported last week that Tottenham are in talks to sign Vlahovic ahead of the January window.
The 21-year-old was heavily linked as a possible replacement for Harry Kane over the summer.
It doesn’t look like Kane is going anywhere, but Tottenham still like Vlahovic and want him in North London.
Vlahovic has six goals in eight games this season, and even hit 21 goals in 37 league games last term.
Vlahovic looks set for a huge future, and we may now see if Newcastle’s takeover can really help them beat a traditional ‘top six’ club to a big deal.
