Newcastle United fans do not appear to feel that Christian Atsu would be a worthwhile signing at the end of the season.

Atsu refused to rule out the possibility of moving to St. James’ Park on a permanent deal, when asked by the Chronicle earlier this week.

He said: “I am just focused on the coming games. We have a number of games left and we want to win promotion.

“I am just focusing on that. We just want to keep hoping and fighting this season, then we will think about this.”

However, Newcastle fans appear to feel that Rafael Benitez should be looking for better options than Atsu.

While the Ghanian has shown flashes of quality this season, he has been unable to hold down a first-team place.

Atsu has made 31 appearances for Newcastle in the Championship this season, but he has only started on 11 occasions.

Atsu has scored three times and claimed two assists, but with Newcastle likely to be playing Premier League football next season, it appears that the general consensus is that Benitez will require better options this summer.

Atsu could now have a point to prove over the remainder of the season, as the Magpies aim to seal promotion.

Newcastle are next in action on Friday against Leeds United, but Atsu seems set to start from the bench again.
