Newcastle United are said to be considering moving for Japanese forward Yoshinori Muto.

Newcastle are already on the look out for potential additions for next season, with their Premier League status looking more secure.
The Magpies are hardly safe yet, but they have built up a four point gap over the relegation zone, and only need a few more positive results to survive.

If Newcastle do stay up then buying a new striker will be at the top of Rafael Benitez’s priority list, and Muto is believed to be being considered.
The Japanese forward has caught the eye in the Bundesliga this campaign, but he hardly looks like the man to really improve Newcastle’s attacking play.
Muto has hit seven goals in 23 Bundesliga matches for Mainz this term, in what has been the most prolific season of his career in Germany.

Overall, the 25-year-old has netted just 22 goals in 68 appearances for Mainz.
And there must be serious question marks over whether Muto would be any upgrade on the likes of Dwight Gayle or Ayoze Perez, who are already at Newcastle.
