Newcastle United want Dominik Szoboszlai and could rival Chelsea in the race to sign the RB Leipzig playmaker this summer.

That’s according to CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs, who has been speaking to Caught Offside about Szoboszlai’s future.

Jacobs claims that Chelsea have sent scouts to watch Szobsozlai in action of late.

New Chelsea technical director Christopher Vivell knows all about Szoboszlai from his time at Leipzig.

The Blues could face a battle though as it’s suggested that Newcastle have been looking at Szoboszlai as a possible signing.

Newcastle are exploring midfield options and Szoboszlai appears to be one name on Eddie Howe’s radar.

Szoboszlai is contracted to Leipzig until 2026 though and the German club will command an enormous asking price.

Dominik Szoboszlai should pick Newcastle over Chelsea

Szoboszlai has been outstanding this season, racking up five goals and 13 assists across all competitions.

The 22-year-old Hungarian can play out wide or as a number 10 and has been hailed as ‘special’ by Jesse Marsch because of his well-rounded game.

If it comes down to a choice between Newcastle or Chelsea, maybe Szoboszlai would be better off at St James’ Park.

Chelsea are collecting wingers and number 10’s, with Szoboszlai’s Leipzig teammate Christopher Nkunku set to arrive this summer.

Szoboszlai would risk making a big move only to be in and out of the Chelsea team as they try to juggle all of their attacking big names.

Newcastle haven’t yet found their creative superstar in midfield and have been heavily linked with James Maddison.

Szoboszlai could be their man though, offering guile and flair in the final third to help unlock Newcastle’s faltering attack.

Szoboszlai would be the main man at Newcastle in that role, playing week in and week out for a club who will surely contend for trophies in the near future.

Chelsea may have been the bigger name over the last 20 years but if Szoboszlai wants a starring role, the Magpies may be the club for him.
