Newcastle United have held talks with the agent of Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries as they seemingly consider a surprise move.

That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who claim that agent Rafaela Pimenta has been in England this week.

It’s understood that Pimenta has spoken to Chelsea, Manchester United and even Newcastle – and Dumfries is understood to be the subject of the talks.

The report claims that Dumfries will either cost €50million (£44million) right now or €40million (£35million) in the summer.

Pimenta is Mino Raiola’s successor and has taken over control of some huge names.

Erling Haaland, Paul Pogba and Gianluigi Donnarumma spring to mind, but none of them are heading to Newcastle right now.

Other players may fit the bill, such as Donyell Malen, Mitchel Bakker and Stephy Mavididi, but the report suggest it’s Dumfries on Newcastle’s wish list.

Newcastle interest in Denzel Dumfries surprising

Dumfries is a very impressive right back; quick, very powerful and dangerous going forward.

We have seen plenty of that quality with the Netherlands at Euro 2020 and the World Cup in Qatar, with Premier League rumours rampant throughout.

Newcastle just seems like a strange rumour though.

The Magpies already have a top right back in Kieran Trippier and they aren’t going to replace him right now, nor is Dumfries going to want to sit on the bench.

Newcastle have mostly been linked with younger right backs that they can mould and develop behind Trippier moving forward.

Harrison Ashby, Cody Drameh and Ivan Fresneda have all been linked and make much more sense than Dumfries.

90Min have claimed that Tottenham asked about a deal for Dumfries ahead of the January window but Spurs are now set to sign Sporting star Pedro Porro.

Tottenham are seemingly out of the race and with a move to Newcastle not really making sense, Chelsea or United may be the favourites for Dumfries in 2023.
