Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are making a late attempt to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli ahead of Everton after suffering a blow in their quest to sign Jesse Lingard from Manchester United, according to The Athletic.

The Athletic are reporting this evening (6:40pm) that Newcastle want to sign Alli on loan from Tottenham until the end of the season.

The report has claimed that Everton are already in the final stages of their talks with Tottenham over signing the 25-year-old England international midfielder on January transfer window.

The Athletic have reported that Newcastle are making a move for Alli after failing to sign attacking midfielder Lingard from Manchester United.

Sky Sports, though, are reporting that Alli is about to undergo a medical at Everton now.

Could Newcastle United sign Dele Alli now?

In our view, Newcastle are unlikely to be able to sign Alli so late on transfer deadline day, especially as it seems that he is about to join Everton.

Now, of course, we know that twists and turns are always possible in transfer deals.

However, we have to ask why Tottenham would want to send Alli to Newcastle on a loan deal when they could eventually get £40 million in transfer fees from Everton (Sky Sports).

So, in our opinion, it is very unlikely that Newcastle will be able to beat Everton to the signature of Alli so late in the window.
