Newcastle United ran out 1-0 winners over Manchester United in their last match.

Paul Dummett has admitted to the Chronicle that he was ‘gutted’ when Steve Bruce dropped him from Newcastle United’s starting line-up for their last match against Manchester United.

Newcastle opted to go with Jetro Willems at left wing-back against United, and Bruce’s decision turned out to be the correct one as the Magpies picked up their best home win of the season.

Newcastle beat Manchester United 1-0 in their last match before the international break.

And Dummett admits that although he was delighted with the result, he was disappointed not to have any part in his side’s success.

“Competition in any team is a big thing to have and I was obviously disappointed not not to play but the main thing was the team put a good performance in,” Dummett said.

“I was gutted not play but Ciaran came into my position and did really well.

“So I know I just need keep on working hard and trying to make sure I’m ready for my chance when it comes again.”

Dummett looks likely to face a fight to win his place back in Newcastle’s squad now, as Bruce is unlikely to want to make changes after seeing his side beat United.

Newcastle put in one of their best performances of the season just over a week ago, as they lifted some of the gloom forming around St. James’ Park.

Newcastle are next in action after the international break, when they return with a match against Chelsea.
