Newcastle United are due to face Liverpool in their next game after the international break, and Steve Bruce should have the ability to pick Jetro Willems.

Newcastle United defender Jetro Willems has told the Chronicle that he is fully fit and raring to go at St. James’ Park.

Willems picked up a hamstring complaint early on in his Newcastle career, and there were some fears that he may not be fully fit.

Willems did play in Newcastle’s last match against Watford, which finished as a 1-1 draw.

And the Dutch defender insists that any issue he had is no longer causing him pain.

“Everything is OK. I have trained normally so everything is OK,” he said.

Willems’ availability for Newcastle is a major boost for Steve Bruce’s side at the moment, as Matt Ritchie is out with injury.

Ritchie is set to be sidelined for weeks, which should give Willems a real chance to stake his claim to Newcastle’s first choice at left wing-back.

Willems has had an up and down start to his Magpies career, after making a mistake on his debut.

The Dutch defender has looked positive going forward, with his pace proving to be an asset, but there are times when he hasn’t looked the most sturdy defensively.

Newcastle return to action after the international break with a game against Liverpool, when Willems is sure to be tested.
