Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson wanted to join Newcastle United, but had a move blocked – and the same went for Watford.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Henderson was blocked from leaving Old Trafford on deadline day.

It’s stated that Henderson wanted to join Newcastle, but that move fell apart on deadline day.

Watford then asked to take Henderson on loan for the rest of the season, but United just wouldn’t let him go.

Ralf Rangnick didn’t want to let a first-team player leave so close to the transfer deadline, so Henderson is now stuck at United.

With David De Gea the undoubted first-choice goalkeeper at United, Henderson may now be sat on the bench until the summer.

Knowing that Henderson wanted to join Newcastle may be a real frustration for the Magpies.

The Daily Mail noted on Sunday that Newcastle were in talks to sign Henderson on loan for the rest of the season.

Rangnick seeming pulled a U-turn though, meaning Newcastle ended the January window without bringing in a new goalkeeper.

Martin Dubravka has picked up an injury, Karl Darlow hasn’t been convincing this season and Freddie Woodman has gone on loan to Bournemouth.

Newcastle will surely go in for another goalkeeper this summer, and Henderson will surely be on the radar again.

Branded ‘exceptional’ by Sander Berge, Henderson was a star in a two-year loan spell at Sheffield United.

Henderson hasn’t managed to break through at United since returning from Bramall Lane, and you can hardly blame him for wanting first-team games elsewhere.

Henderson met the same fate as Jesse Lingard as a move to Newcastle was blocked, but we may well see the Magpies return for both players this summer.
