Newcastle United could have signed French striker Alexandre Lacazette for £16m in 2014.
According to reports from The Guardian, Premier League giants Arsenal are close to signing French striker Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon in the next few days.
The 26-year-old striker, who would cost around €60 million (£52.7 million), has completed his medical at the north London club’s training ground on Tuesday.
The French international will sign a five-year deal at Arsenal, and will eclipse Mesut Ozil as Arsenal’s most expensive signing.

The prolific goalscorer could have been a Newcastle United player today, had the Magpies taken a £16 million gamble on him three years back, according to the Chronicle.
During the summer of 2014, Newcastle were looking to invest heavily to bolster their squad. The Magpies made some exciting signings that summer, with the likes of Siem de Jong, Daryl Janmaat, and Ayoze Perez arriving at the club.
Lacazette was Newcastle’s first choice target, but the Magpies baulked at the player’s £16 million price tag.
Instead, they went for playmaker Remy Cabella, who cost them around £10 million, and Emmanuel Riviere who arrived in a £6 million deal from Monaco.
