Newcastle United want Conor Gallagher this summer but Chelsea are pushing to tie him down to a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

That’s according to The Sun, who claim that Chelsea are now ready to give Gallagher a pay rise to stay in West London.

Gallagher is still under contract until 2025 but Chelsea want to boost his £50,000-a-week wages and convince him to stay put.

This may be a ploy to keep Gallagher happy at Chelsea given that the signing of Enzo Fernandez may push him down the pecking order.

Chelsea wouldn’t allow Gallagher to leave before the January deadline and are now trying to convince him that he still has a role to play moving forward.

The harsh truth right now though is that Gallagher is going to struggle to earn regular starts as Chelsea look to splash millions on any player they fancy.

It was already hard enough for Gallagher but a star role at Chelsea just seems unlikely any time soon – which may not be the case elsewhere.

Newcastle United ready to strike for Conor Gallagher

If Gallagher doesn’t fancy signing that new deal then you can be sure that Newcastle United will be ready and waiting for him.

The London Evening Standard report that Newcastle are front-runners to sign Gallagher this summer.

The Magpies clearly need to add more quality in midfield given their record when Bruno Guimaraes is missing.

Gallagher could help provide an attacking thrust as a box-to-box midfielder and he still has plenty of untapped potential at just 23.

Newcastle also wanted Gallagher last summer, so the Magpies don’t seem to be going away when it comes to Gallagher’s future.

Eddie Howe loves energy in the middle of the park and Gallagher offers that in spades, so Newcastle look prepared to strike for him this summer.

Hailed as ‘fantastic’ by Graham Potter, Gallagher now has plenty to think about as the suitors queue up to sign him and Chelsea desperately fight to keep him.
