Newcastle United want Christian Pulisic and United States legend Alexi Lalas believes this could be a very appealing move for the Chelsea man.

The Magpies want to sign a winger before the transfer deadline and have recently targeted the likes of Jack Harrison and Moussa Diaby.

Yet rumours of Newcastle striking a deal with Chelsea have accelerated in recent days after Mehrdad Ghodoussi and Amanda Staveley were both spotted at Stamford Bridge.

Staveley is a long-term friend of Chelsea owner Todd Boehly and was subsequently invited to Chelsea v Tottenham, sparking rumours of a Chelse player heading to Newcastle.

Newcastle United want Christian Pulisic

Callun Hudson-Odoi, Armando Broja and Conor Gallagher have all been mentioned but links to winger Pulisic are now gathering pace.

The Telegraph report that Newcastle have now made their first move for Pulisic by enquiring about his availability.

Any move would likely be a loan deal given Chelsea paid a huge £58million fee to sign Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund in 2019.

The American hasn’t quite lived up to his billing at Chelsea though and hasn’t started either of the Blues’ Premier League games this season.

The World Cup in Qatar is just around the corner and Pulisic will want regular first-team action in order to shine for the Unites States.

That seemingly isn’t going to come at Chelsea this season but Newcastle could offer something a little different.

The plan would be for Pulisic to play on one flank with Allan Saint-Maximin on the other, potential giving the Magpies an exciting duo out wide.

A deal doesn’t seem to be close but Newcastle are pushing for Pulisic’s signature in a very exciting move.

United States legend Alexi Lalas has now had his say on Pulisic whilst speaking on his podcast, State of the Union.

Lalas suggested that he thinks Pulisic is happy at Chelsea and in London itself, but does think Newcastle represent an interesting escape route.

Lalas wasn’t sure whether Newcastle is necessarily an upgrade, but thinks Pulisic would be wise to at least consider being a key part of Newcastle’s exciting project.

“I think he has to look beyond the World Cup and I think he is happy by all accounts in where he is playing and more importantly where he is living,” said Lalas. “We concentrate so much on the 90 minutes and yes that is important because it ultimately dictates where you are going to live but that other 22 and a half hours, yes I think he’s happy right now”

“I don’t think it’s necessarily that he wants to go, but if he is going to go, with what Newcastle is, and more importantly what Newcastle is aiming to be, I actually think that’s a pretty good move. That would be really interesting to be involved in the rising of the once-great Newcastle, with incredible money and new ownership.”

“Is it an upgrade for Christian Pulisic? It’s such a unique situation in Newcastle that if he’s playing more consistently and getting starts which I think he would, but I don’t know,” he added.
