Newcastle United still sit top of the Championship table, despite losing on Saturday.
Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles has shared the strange atmosphere in the dressing room following his side’s loss to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, and described how unfamiliar the feeling was after their fine run of form of late, as quoted by the Shields Gazette.
The Magpies still sit top of the Championship table, and hold a two point advantage over second placed Brighton & Hove Albion, despite losing to Blackburn, in a result that ended their eight game winning streak in the league.

And Lascelles, who has played in all but one of Newcastle’s league games so far this season, described the muted atmosphere inside the Magpies’ dressing room following their disappointing defeat on Saturday, as quoted by the Shields Gazette:
“It was a strange feeling in the dressing room. How do you act? We are used to having the music on and everyone laughing and joking, but there was none of that. The boys have come in and their heads are down. We are not used to losing.”
Rafa Benitez’ men will be looking to bounce back immediately tonight against Hull City in the quarter-final of the EFL Cup, and despite the Tigers’ Premier League status, the visitors will head into the game feeling extremely confident in their chances of a win.

Mike Phelan’s men currently sit in 18th position in the Premier League table, and head into tonight’s clash having won only one game from their last 11 league outings.
If Newcastle perform to the same level they have been over the past two months, there is no reason why they cannot reach the semi-finals of the competition, and in doing so, bring the feel-good felling back to the club.
