Newcastle United were originally quoted £10 million for Fernando by Manchester City.
According to a report in The Sun, Newcastle United could be about to complete a deal for Manchester City midfielder Fernando, and it appears playing the waiting game has worked for Rafael Benitez’s side.
Benitez was linked Fernando last month, after identifying the Brazilian as one of his first targets following promotion.
However, at the time, City were said to be quoting Newcastle a £10 million fee for Fernando (The Sun).

The Magpies decided against doing a deal at that price, and recently have been scouring the market for other options.
Newcastle have been linked with Liverpool’s Lucas in recent times, but it seems that Benitez has now returned to his original target – following City’s decision to halve their asking price.

Fernando is now expected to make a move to St. James’ Park, and he could be a bargain buy.
Fernando may not have stolen headlines at City, but he is a solid Premier League player.
And Newcastle can feel assured that the 29-year-old will add quality to Benitez’s squad if he does move to St. James Park, as expected.
