Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes looks set to complete a move to Newcastle Untied very soon, with a couple of major hints that the deal is close.
Newcastle have been chasing big additions this week, knowing that Monday’s transfer deadline is drawing closer and closer.
One of their top targets now appears to be midfielder Guimaraes, with Newcastle pushing to get him snapped up.
L’Equipe report that Newcastle are close to an agreement having offered Lyon €42million plus €10million in bonuses. That’s £35million up front with another £8million to come, totalling £43million.
There are now a couple of indications that Guimaraes is on his way to Newcastle.
The first is that Guimaraes’ agent has posted a photo on Instagram showing that he is travelling to Belo Horizonte.
Fabrizio Romano claims the reason for that is because Guimaraes will undergo a medical to join Newcastle in Belo Horizonte.
His agent being on the way there points firmly in the direction of a deal being done – and Lyon are seemingly preparing for his exit.
Foot Mercato claim that Lyon are now eyeing two signings with the Guimaraes money, both to bolster their midfield.
The first is Brest star Romain Faivre, who is more of a creative player out wide and in the final third than a midfielder like Guimaraes.
Talks for Faivre are advanced, but Lyon are looking for another deal in the form of Koln midfielder Ellyes Skhiri.
Skhiri does make sense as a direct replacement for Guimaraes, and even has French experience under his belt having played five seasons with Montpellier.
Lyon likely wouldn’t be going for these players if Guimaraes wasn’t on his way, and these factors mean Newcastle may have the Brazilian snapped up very, very soon.
