Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes has once again talked up the prospect of reuniting with Lyon star Lucas Paqueta at St James’ Park.

Newcastle paid big money to sign Guimaraes in January and that move has proven to be a masterstroke.

Guimaraes has quickly become a fan favourite at Newcastle and looks absolutely perfect for the Premier League.

Newcastle will hope to find more quality players like Guimaraes and may in fact target one of his former teammates.

The Chronicle report that Newcastle are fighting Arsenal in the race to sign Lyon star Lucas Paqueta this summer.

It’s suggested that the Brazilian midfielder will cost a huge £58million though Paris Saint-Germain are allegedly backing away.

Paqueta would even demand wages of around £180,000-a-week, meaning Newcastle would face a huge bill if they want to sign him.

Convincing Paqueta to join may not be easy, especially if he has Champions League offers on the table.

Yet if anybody can convince Paqueta to join Newcastle it may well be Guimaraes.

The pair played together for Lyon and are Brazilian international teammates as well as being close friends off the pitch.

Paqueta actually went to see Guimares play for Newcastle against Southampton – and Guimaraes scored.

In April, Guimaraes admitted that he was ‘always’ talking to Paqueta and would love to see him join Newcastle.

Guimaraes has doubled down on that stance, possibly leaving Lyon furious in the process!

Speaking to ESPN, Guimaraes has admitted that Newcastle signing Paqueta would be his ‘dream’ given their ‘brotherly relationship’.

Guimaraes even noted how close their wives are, adding that a transfer to Newcastle would be ‘really cool’ but it’s simply not his job to sign players.

“It would be my dream,” said Guimaraes. “Paquetá is my best friend, we made a relationship, not only on the field, but we lived together all the time outside. Our wives together too. It was a brotherly relationship, we still talk every day. It would be really cool if he could come here, but I can’t do this job,” he added.

Over to you, Eddie Howe and Steve Nickson; land Paqueta and Newcastle could have a ‘dream’ midfield combination.
