Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are competing with Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa for Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Yves Bissouma, according to The Daily Mail.
The report has claimed that Newcastle are interested in signing Bissouma from Premier League rivals Brighton in the summer transfer window.
Villa are keen on the Mali international as well, with the Villans having had a bid of £25 million for the 25-year-old turned down in the January transfer window.
Yves Bissouma could be expensive for Newcastle
Bissouma could be an expensive signing for Newcastle
The Daily Mail reported in January that Brighton were looking for £50 million in transfer fees for the Mali international midfielder, described as “sensational” by Arsenal legend Ian Wright on Wrighty’s House Podcast in August 2021.
It is unlikely that Brighton will lower their transfer demands for Bissouma in the summer transfer window.

After all, the Seagulls are an established club in the Premier League and do not have to sell any players.
Signing Bissouma for £50 million would make the midfielder Newcastle’s most expensive signing.
Would it be worth it?
In our view, yes.
Newcastle are about to start a great project, and Bissouma would make the team better and stronger in the middle of the park.
