Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez called Danny Welbeck very dangerous just two years ago.

Danny Welbeck talks to journalists after an England training session at St Georges Park on May 28, 2018 in Burton-upon-Trent, England.

According to TeamTalk, Newcastle United are interested in signing Danny Welbeck – just two years after Rafael Benitez spoke of his admiration for the forward.

Arsenal were due to face Barcelona in the Champions League back in 2016, and during Benitez’s analysis he showed just how highly he rated Welbeck.

The Newcastle boss said that Welbeck was capable of doing damage to Barcelona, as both him and Alexis Sanchez were very dangerous players.

“Alexis Sanchez is playing regularly and with Welbeck coming back that will help their game,” Benitez said to the London Evening Standard.

“If they can keep the ball with these two players up front they will be more dangerous.”

Sanchez has gone from strength to strength since, and is now playing for Manchester United.

Welbeck, on the other hand, has continued to struggle with injury and made need a move to fulfil his potential.

At Newcastle, the England international would surely play regularly, as Benitez is so keen to find a new striker.

Newcastle struggled for goals up-front last term, and Welbeck would surely be a bigger threat than any of the forwards currently at St. James’ Park.
