Newcastle United are set to be offered the chance to sign West Ham United’s Darren Randolph.

According to a report in the Chronicle, West Ham United are set to hand Newcastle United the chance to sign Darren Randolph, but Rafael Benitez should turn down their offer.

West Ham are expected to sign Joe Hart soon, which means that Randolph will be expendable.

Republic of Ireland's Darren Randolph

West Ham are set to give Newcastle first refusal on the Republic of Ireland international, as they feel he could end Rafael Benitez’s search for a goalkeeper.

However, Newcastle should avoid jumping at the chance to sign Randolph, as he is not enough of an upgrade on the current options in their squad.

Newcastle already have Rob Elliot, Tim Krul and Karl Darlow to pick from in goal, and the trio are all of a similar quality to Randolph.

Randolph was error prone last season, and failed to hold down a place in West Ham’s first team.

Although Newcastle are looking for a new stopper, they need to find a definitive upgrade on what they already have.

And if Randolph is the best on offer, then Benitez is better of sticking by his current options.
