Benitez was very frustrated by the Magpies’ failure to snap up any new additions.

And the Spanish boss admits that he has not spoken to Ashley since the end of the January transfer window.
“No, I was in communication with Lee all the time so I know more or less what we have done. But still I do not know what happened,” Benitez said, when asked whether he had spoken to Ashley on Tuesday [deadline day] or Wednesday.
Benitez is understood to have been eager to add to Newcastle’s squad in January, and he has been left frustrated by his side’s failure to do business.

The Independent have suggested that Benitez could leave Newcastle at the end of the season, which would be a major blow to the St. James’ Park side.

The Magpies cannot afford for speculation about Benitez’s future to distract them from the task in hand, though, with the Tynesiders gunning for promotion.
Newcastle are currently in second place in the Championship table, with their next match coming against Derby County at the weekend.
