Aston Villa are due to travel to Newcastle United on Monday evening.
Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez has told the Chronicle that Aston Villa’s struggles, even after spending so much money in January, prove how tough the Championship is.
Villa spent more money than any other Championship club during the last transfer window, with a whole host of new players arriving at Villa Park.
The likes of Conor Hourihane, James Bree, Scott Hogan and Henri Lansbury were all brought in by Steve Bruce.
However, Villa are still yet to win a competitive match in 2017, and they are languishing down in the bottom half of the table.
Villa were touted as promotion contenders before the season started, but their poor run of recent results has even led to Bruce admitting that he is fearing relegation.
And Benitez said: “Some people think if you spend money you will do well. For me it has proved how difficult the Championship is.”
Villa are due to travel to St. James’ Park on Monday, and the pressure is on them to get back to winning ways.
Newcastle have been the stand out team in the Championship this season, but Villa realise that they are in dire need of victories.
Bruce’s men are currently just seven points above the relegation zone, and could be left looking nervously over their shoulders, unless their performances improve rapidly.
