Newcastle United sold Moussa Sissoko to Tottenham Hotspur on transfer deadline day for a fee in the region of £30 million.

The Frenchman left Newcastle after weeks of speculation regarding his future at the club and was the biggest deal concluded on deadline day.

He had an excellent Euro 2016 with France, which had seen him linked with several big clubs across Europe.

In the end Spurs got him and Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is happy that the distraction of Sissoko is no longer present at St James’ Park.

He told the Chronicle this weekend, after being asked about Sissoko:

“Yeah. In the end, it has hopefully been good for everyone involved. We have done good business, but now we have to think about the future.

“We know we have good players and we know that we have to concentrate on ourselves and no think too much about the past.”

The Frenchman could be in line for his Spurs debut at Stoke City this afternoon and Tottenham fans will be looking forward to seeing him in action.

As for Newcastle they take on Derby County in today’s evening kick-off in the Championship.

They will be hoping to continue their good form of late and without having to worry about Sissoko the Newcastle manager will be hoping the Magpies can now put their full attention toward winning promotion back to the Premier League.
