Newcastle United have been on the receiving end of some strange decisions in recent weeks.

Magpies boss Rafa Benitez spoke to reporters after his side’s bitterly disappointing 1-1 draw with Leeds United yesterday, and highlighted how his team have been on the the wrong end of some strange decisions of late, whilst aiming a thinly-veiled dig at officials, suggesting that his understanding of the rules has changed, as quoted by Reuters.
Newcastle now find themselves four points adrift of league leaders Brighton and Hove Albion, although they do hold an eight point advantage over third placed Huddersfield Town.
They would have been in a far more comfortable position, however, had they not conceded a goal deep into stoppage time against Garry Monk’s side yesterday.
Benitez, though, blasted the referee’s decision to allow play to carry on past what he thought was the allotted four minutes of injury time, explaining how disappointed he was with the final result, as quoted by Reuters:

“I am pleased with the performance of the team, the commitment, the passion, the effort but I am disappointed because we make a mistake at the end. At the end I mean 95 minutes. I don’t understand a lot of things from the last few games but we have to be proud of the effort. If you analyse the last games, my understanding of the rules has changed a little bit.”
Next up for the Toon is a trip to East Anglia to take on Ipswich Town on Monday, and a win will be a necessity for Benitez’ men, as they look to cement their place inside the top two.
