Newcastle United want Benjamin Sesko and are now ready to ramp up their efforts to sign the Red Bull Salzburg striker in the coming days.

The Magpies started their season with a 2-0 home win over Nottingham Forest and will have been delighted to see striker Callum Wilson on the scoresheet.

That won’t stop Newcastle’s pursuit of attacking reinforcements though, with strikers and wingers still wanted.

Finding those players this summer has been very frustrating having failed to secure the likes of Moussa Diaby, Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike.

Newcastle have other targets in mind and now appear ready to make a big push for one of them.

Newcastle United want Benjamin Sesko

The Northern Echo report that Newcastle are ready to make a new move to sign Red Bull Salzburg wonderkid Benjamin Sesko.

It’s stated that Newcastle had enquired into signing Sesko last month but were told that Salzburg had no intention of selling.

However, Newcastle are ready to make a bid for Sesko anyway, in the hope of convincing the Austrian side into a deal.

Salzburg wanted €50million (£42million) to even talk about a deal, but Newcastle will now offer €30million (£25million) plus add-ons.

Whether that can tempt Salzburg into selling Sesko remains to be seen, but they do usually sell eventually.

The likes of Erling Haaland, Karim Adeyemi, Patson Daka, Hwang Hee-chan and Takumi Minamino have all moved on from Salzburg in recent times – and that’s just attackers!

Sesko, 19, has already hit 12 goals and eight assists in 39 first-team games for Salzburg.

It looks liked the Slovenian international will become the next big sale at Salzburg, but just when that sale comes is up for debate.

Sesko’s agent Elvir Basanovic was in Newcastle last month, leaving Magpies fans to believe that a deal was on the cards.

It looks like Newcastle really are pushing to sign Sesko but securing his signature won’t be an easy task in the final weeks of the transfer window.
