Newcastle wanted Benjamin Sesko over the summer and RB Leipzig are already demanding £52million from any interested club.

The Magpies were clearly in the market for a young striker to develop alongside experienced hitmen Callum Wilson and

Hugo Ekitike was a prime target before joining Paris Saint-Germain whilst Sekou Mara and Joao Pedro were also linked.

Newcastle did end up signing their striker of the future in Alexander Isak, but that deal only came after a move was Benjamin Sesko ruled out.

Newcastle wanted Benjamin Sesko

Sesko became a hot name in the Newcastle rumour mill at one stage in the summer window.

Agent Elvir Basanovic posted a photo from Newcastle back in July, setting tongues wagging about a potential move to St James’ Park.

The Daily Mail then reported that Newcastle were indeed interested in signing Sesko and he was on their striker wish list.

However, Newcastle weren’t able to strike a deal for Sesko as he made a somewhat unsurprising move to RB Leipzig.

Sesko had racked up 11 goals in 38 first-team games for Red Bull Salzburg before this season, so a move to sister club Leipzig shouldn’t be a shock.

Sesko’s move only takes place next summer though and some clubs are even asking if they can buy the Slovenian as soon as he arrives in Germany.

90Min report that the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Bayern Munich are all still keen on Sesko despite his deal with Leipzig.

That report suggests that Leipzig would want a €60million (£52million) deal to offload Sesko, which would be a staggering £31million profit on the £21million signing fee.

Sesko, 19, is considered to be one of the top young strikers in world football so this mad rush for his signature is no great surprise.

Still, sniffing around Leipzig not even two months on from their deal for Sesko is quite the compliment.

It seems like Newcastle won’t be in the market for Sesko any time soon, and whilst they will be happy with Isak, that immediate mark-up price for Sesko shows just what a talent they have missed out on.
