Newcastle United want Benjamin Sesko but it now looks like Chelsea are making a real push to win the race for his signature.

The Magpies have done some impressive business this summer by bringing in Nick Pope, Sven Botman and Matt Targett.

The attention is now focused squarely on attacking additions with strikers and wingers heavily linked to Newcastle in recent weeks.

Newcastle still seemingly fancy a young centre forward after missing out on Hugo Ekitike joined Paris Saint-Germain.

Links to Sekou Mara and Armando Broja certainly support that idea, but there is another name in the mix for Newcastle.

Newcastle United want Benjamin Sesko

Newcastle also fancy Red Bull Salzburg attacker Sesko, but that move also seems a little complicated and ultimately unlikely.

Agent Elvir Basanovic set tongues wagging when he posted a photo from Newcastle when Sesko is clearly his highest-profile client.

It later emerged that Newcastle do indeed fancy Sesko, but also that the Slovenian teenager wasn’t all that keen on the Magpies.

Newcastle’s task of convincing Sesko has become even harder with the Daily Mail suggesting that agent Basanovic has held talks with Manchester United.

They claim that Premier League scouts watched Sesko in action against Sturm Graz over the weekend ahead of potentially launching a bid for the 19-year-old.

To make matters worse for Newcastle, Sport Klub in Sesko’s native Slovenia claim that Basanovic has held a meeting with Chelsea’s new owner Todd Boehly.

Chelsea are chasing a striker signing over their own and now appear to be well in the race for Sesko.

The 6ft 4in striker has hit 12 goals and eight assists in 39 first-team games for Salzburg, showing his immense potential.

With Sesko already unsure about Newcastle and both Chelsea and Manchester United now making their interest known, this might be one to cross off the list for the Magpies.
