Newcastle United are interested in Azzedine Ounahi with the Morocco World Cup star attracting major interest after his displays in Qatar.

That’s according to 90Min, who claim that Newcastle have been keeping tabs on Ounahi’s performances.

They’re far from alone though with Southampton, West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers all interested.

This comes after L’Equipe reported that Leicester City are keen to sign Ounahi in a deal worth up to €45million (£39million).

The latest report now suggests that Barcelona, Inter Milan, Juventus, Lyon and Paris Saint-Germain have all been scouting Ounahi,.

Whilst there may have been some interest in Ounahi before the World Cup, his displays in Qatar have undoubtedly raised his profile.

Who is Newcastle target Azzedine Ounahi?

There are big names in the Morocco side, such as Achraf Hakimi and Hakim Ziyech, but Ounahi has been a breakout star.

Ounahi was born in Casablanca and started his career in the Raja CA and Mohammed VI Football Academy setups in Morocco.

Strasbourg snapped Ounahi up in 2018 but only used him for their B team before allowing him to join Avranches.

Five goals in 27 league games showcased Ounahi’s ability and Angers swooped in to sign him in the summer of 2021.

Ounahi’s most noticeable quality is his dribbling ability.

In Ligue 1 this season, only one player has recorded more successful dribbles than Ounahi’s 37 – Lionel Messi, with 47.

Ounahi has been showing his close control and dribbling ability in Qatar, providing a real attacking thrust from midfield.

At just 22, Ounahi still has bags of potential and will be looking to add more quality in the final third having failed to bag a goal or assist this season.

Newcastle and West Ham seemingly see that potential in Ounahi and will surely watch him in action against France tonight.
