Newcastle United are ready to pay as much as €35 million (£29.31 million) for Atalanta’s Robin Gosens, according to CM.

The report in the Italian news outlet has claimed that Newcastle are willing to offer Atalanta €35 million (£29.31 million) for Gosens, who can play as a left-back, left-winger or left wing-back.

That would make the Germany international the second most expensive signing in Newcastle history after Joelinton at £40 million.

Could Newcastle United get Robin Gosens?

In our view, it is going to be tough for Newcastle to sign Gosens in the January transfer window.

The 27-year-old has not played since September due to injury.

Now, of course, the money on offer for Gosens – described as “amazing” by former Germany manager Joachim Low in The London Evening Standard in June 2021 – is great, but there is also the small factor that Newcastle could get relegated from the Premier League at the end of the season.

Moreover, Atalanta may not eager to sell Gosens in the middle of the season.

Atalanta are fourth in the Serie A table at the moment and are aiming to finish in the Champions League places yet again.

Meanwhile, The Northern Echo have reported that Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum does not fancy a move to a Newcastle team who are fighting for survival in the Premier League.

Newcastle reportedly want to sign former Liverpool midfielder Wijnaldum on loan from PSG in the January transfer window.
